Jane Goodall was kind enough to write the afterword for our children's picture book "I'm Lucy: A Day in the Life of a Young Bonobo", author Mathea Levine and steered by Ursula Goodenough.

Marian has been documenting Lucy's family for seven years, since Lucy was one.

This is Lexi, Lucy's big sister. These are Bonobos! The 4th Great Ape. The one we rarely hear about. This picture is in the National Geographic Kids Magazine in June 2010.

Bonobo lectures offered

I thought we knew all about bonobos--the most human-like ape and the last to be discovered. But Marian Brickner’s remarkable photos have opened a new window into their world.

Her presentations evoke delight and wonder in audiences of all ages, as she shows her images of bonobos and other creatures as thinking, feeling individuals—in a way that you (or your students) have never experienced them before.

Brickner has the rare ability to capture an animal’s thought process and personality so well that we suddenly experience them as individuals and fellow beings. After an enlightening and entertaining hour with Marian and her pictures, we can never again safely place them in a category apart from ourselves called “animals.”
